My heart . . . it cannot handle this. >W<
First off, LOVE the color choices! Not to mention that the colors blend very nicely, and there is unity behind those colors that makes the art work. For example, the blue in younger Dei's outfit is repeated in older Dei's sash, and older Dei's clothes mimic the background. Along with that, the whole background is done in a suitable way, as if they were just feet from their home.
What I did notice were off were some of the details; for example, both of their eyes seem to be unfocused, as if they're not actually looking at one another. Not only that, but there's a pattern on older Deidara's robe that bothers me, as it's not necessarily altered in respect to the wrinkles as well as it could be. Some other elements seem out of sort as well; the house behind them and the little out-of-place as well as the clouds next to little Dei's bug-catcher.
I could also suggest that the idea in itself isn't necessarily original; characters with their younger selves isn't an uncommon idea, but it is mitigated because the event is NOT common. It is not that they just met, but that they've known each other and the younger is quite attached to his older counterpart . . .
I love the poses of these characters; little Dei seems to be reaching up desperately to his older counterpart, almost as if he wants to reach his height, while the elder seems almost miffed to have to crouch down to acknowledge his little one. Little Dei's motion also adds to the picture, with the way his arm flails and his bug-catcher jumps.
I guess the thing this ultimately makes me think of, however, is Deidara as a father, or even just as a caretaker. I mean, it's pretty obvious that he doesn't enjoy being pestered, but he still took time to kneel to the younger's level and at least attempt to listen. An act of maturity on his part? Or perhaps his expression is only temporary, as he sees how enthusiastic the younger is about impressing him (because perhaps that is how his art is passed on: temporarily, to another). Maybe Deidara isn't so annoyed after all . . .
Above all, this is an amazing work of art that depicts an event that while common, adds an extra twist and spark of thought that others do not. This picture is thought-provoking and incredible in its image, qualities that are no mean feat in the artistic world. Excellent job!
